Stories are what keep me inspired in life and art. My work explores how I can achieve narrative through body gestures, expressions, and drawing techniques. I use charcoal and graphite to draw photo-realistic depictions of a person mid-action. I focus on facial expressions and body language to convey a sense of intensity and secrecy. The story comes from my character's reaction to the situation instead of the details of the scene. I keep the backgrounds dark and minimal to communicate the importance of the subject matter rather than the setting. I focus on the subject's face because that is where emotion is most expressive in the body.
The goal of my work is to suggest a narrative that captures the viewer's attention, and they begin to question the situation of the subject matter. Stories are more fun when we are only handed pieces. My work is like a puzzle; some pieces are blank, left for the viewer to imagine. I want others to be inspired by the storytelling aspect of my work.
